ABSTRACT

The research’s background is that a lot of companies have problem when executing
strategy. Often, strategy, which was formulated, fails to be applied in everyday operational.
To solve this problem, Kaplan and Norton have introduced the balanced scorecard (BSC) in
1992. BSC is strategic tool and tool for which can be used to measure successful strategy
translation into day to day operation. BSC has strategy map. It was designed to give the
macro view from company strategy and translate the strategy and key performance
indicator (KPI) as based on performance indicator.
But the BSC adoption process often fails to reach the goal wanted. According to Kaplan
and Norton, the success of implementation BSC was influenced by 2 important factors that
are alignment and focus. Therefore implementation of BSC needed alignment among BSC
and strategy map to vision, mission, and strategy. KPI also shall really representing
competent indicator that competent for measure performance.
By this reason, researcher feel important to conduct this research where in this research is
conducted alignment evaluation of Balanced scorecard, strategy map and KPI related by a
vision, mission, strategy and characteristic of performance measurement. This Research is
conducted in United Tractors Semen Gresik as a quarry mining company. This research
started by analyze vision, mission statement based on characteristic of vision and mission
statement, analyze of linkage among strategy map component to vision, mission and critical
success factor, mapping strategy map’s component to each perspective in balanced
scorecard and analyze key performance indicator based on characteristic of performance
indicator.
Result of research indicate that the vision, company mission have fulfilled the characteristic
of statement of vision and mission, components of strategy map company are
related/relevant with the mission vision but not yet cover as a whole from critical success
factor stakeholder, and KPI company in general have fulfilled the that characteristic of
performance measurement . Therefore in the end of from this research, researcher give
recommendation of Balanced Scorecard design, strategy map and KPI based on analysis
result which have been conducted.
